The breed has its origin in England, and was there the first matings were done and litters born. The kittens were extremely enchanting, a new breed was born. In 1984 there was an export of a Burmilla to Denmark, Penric Quicksilver. From this point of time, the Burmillas has grown steadily in numbers and popularity with the public. In 1994 an initiative was taken to have the breed officially accepted for showing within FIFé. It has been accepted since 1/1-95.

The personality
The temperament is gentle, sweet and extremely friendly. Its very extravert and social, it simply LOVES people - adults and children. They are great "talkers", leaving comments and remarks on most things You do around the house. You will not be left unaware about the fact that there is a Burmilla in the house! An enchanting and adorable expression completes the Burmilla charm.

The Burmilla is an elegant cat of medium foreign type in Shaded and Tipped (Shell) Silver coat varieties.

One of the fascinating qualities of the Burmilla is the shimmer of the coat. This is the result of the colour disposition on each hair, white base colour (Silver) and tipped at the top end with a darker colour. The amount of tipping is denoted by Shell (12) for maximum ¼ of colour and Shaded (11) giving ¼ - ½ of colour.
